100 DOGS AND CATS FOUND IN MOBILE HOME | WAVY.COM | NORTH CAROLINA, http://www.wavy.com/dpp/news/north_carolina/100-dogs-and -cats-found-in-mobile-home

BEDFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - Deputies removed nearly 100 dogs and cats from a Bedford County mobile home in one of the worst cases of animal hoarding state officials have ever seen.

Animal control officers had to wait for a hazmat team to secure the house. They said there was so much pet urine that it was dangerous for rescuers to breathe.

"How anybody could have stood it on a 90 degree, 100 degree day - I don't know," said Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown.

The amonia from the urine was measured at about 200 parts per million. That's compared with about 5 parts per million in your average patch of grass. It was a staggering amount that vets worry could hurt the animals' lungs.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A HazMat team was busy Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in the garage of a home on Houston's south side.

It happened around 9pm at a home undergoing renovations on Akard and Rubin. Several hours after the fire tore through the garage, firefighters, HazMat crews and federal investigators were still at the scene because they found several volatile chemicals inside.
They describe what was found in that garage as dangerous and hazardous chemicals usually used for drug labs.

"Because of the chemicals we are dealing with, we thought we needed to be very careful," said Robert Koryciak with the Houston Fire Department Arson Bureau. "Not only are they very dangerous to health, they are very volatile and explosive."

One firefighter was transported the hospital with unknown injuries. There is no word on his condition.

PLANT OWNER NEEDS CHEMICAL CLEAN UP PLANS - http://www.krgv.com/news/local/s tory/Plant-Owner-Needs-Chemical-Clean-Up-Plans/_XuAOJ9yzkecR-oZP2PPag.cspx

DONNA - State environmental inspectors want the property owner of an old manufacturing planet to come up with a plan to clean up a recent chemical spill.

Two weeks ago a fire broke out at the site on 11th Street, south of Business 83 in Donna. A chemical called nahptha was stored in barrels at the plant. The chemical is used in dry cleaning.

A demolition crew started tearing down one of the silos on site. There was about 10 inches of sludge and chemical left inside the silo and it sparked the fire.
The city of Donna issued a permit when tearing down the plant. Officials say the workers did not follow protocol including cutting down tall grass. The site is located just feet from a school.

TCEQ spokesperson Jaime Garza says the owner received a certified letter from inspectors. The owner must submit a plan to cleanup the site to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. If the owner does not comply he could face fines or other penalties.

UPDATE- CROWLEY PIPE BOMB | KATC.COM - ACADIANA NEWS, ACADIANA WEATHER, ACADIANA SPORTS | LAFAYETTE WEATHER, LAFAYETTE NEWS, LAFAYETTE SPORTS |, http://www.kat c.com/news/update-crowley-pipe-bomb/

Crowley Police have made three arrests into a matter which has been under investigation for the past several weeks. Police say there are possibly more arrest to come. The incident stems from a September 5th incident which occurred on Fairway Dr. in Crowley.

Police received a complaint that an object believed to be a homemade bomb had been located on the property. Crowley Police along with Crowley Fire Department and State Police Hazmat responded to the scene.

"Our investigation into this matter has revealed that the persons involved in this matter were juveniles. There was no intent to cause damage or injury, however state law was violated under Manufacturing of an Incendiary Device" stated Chief K.P. Gibson.

The three juveniles were charged and are pending court action. Other juveniles are being looked at for their possible role in this incident. "Our concern comes as these young people do not understand the seriousness of what could have happened. They thought that they were playing a joke, but in reality put fear into citizens" stated Chief Gibson. "My concern is that someone, including the young people who made these devices could have been injured. Mixing chemicals to make an explosive device is not a game and will not be tolerated" stated Chief Gibson.

Due to the suspects being juveniles, their names cannot be released.

Among the claims, the Los Angeles city attorney's office says Los Angeles stores sent more than 5,000 pounds of unsalable hazardous products to a regional food bank.
Minneapolis-based Target says in a statement that the company has a comprehensive program in place to ensure stores comply with California law.

Once it was determined that a hazardous materials incident occurred, and that it was contained in one room, DEP employees wore hazmat suits into the laboratory.
