I'm not sure if he's on this list, but Dr. Douglas Walters, whom I believe is a past President of DCHAS, was Head of Chemical Health and Safety for the National Toxicology Program and literally wrote the book on H&S for toxicity testing (in conjunction with C.W. Jameson, copyright 1984). As the Chemical Health and Safety Officer for one of their contract research labs, I spent many years under Dr. Walters' tutelage. Of course our entire facility is set up for testing materials of unknown toxicity, generally following very strict contractual
