Hi Amber
,
Congratulations on your new position!
I second
what Bill
has said. NEHA has a wide variety of courses available. I recently sat for
the
environmental health training for emergency response (EHTER) offered throug
h
NEHA in conjunction with the CDC. The course addresses some of the issues t
hat
you will be facing as an environmental health professional. Additionally, m
any
health departments are becoming increasingly involved with emergency
preparedness, so you may be ahead of the curve! As Bill said, MANY relevant
courses are available online, the cost of membership is worthwhile.<

First off---------Congratulations ! Hopefully you
are a NEHA member (like me).
Secondly, NEHA has a large selection of reading
material and free web-based courses available in this area.
Enjoy,

I will be
inspecting any establishment that sells food, such as full service
restaurants, gas stations, day care centers, schools, fast food etc. Also
I
will inspect food distribution warehouses, public/semi-public pools, stor
m
water and industrial waste haulers. I work for the Health Department so I
am
basically inspecting these places to ensure the safety and health of its
customers. I also respond to citizen complaints, such as oil in driveways
,
food borne illnesses and vector control. I am basically a health inspecto
r.
Our city is unique in that we also respond to all east north Texas HAZMAT
incidents. I am attending HAZMAT training in Alabama in May. We have '
;million dollar
truck' for HAZMAT scenes that is equipped with chemical identificatio
n
instruments, glove box and decontamination station. I am only one of two
people with a chemistry degree, everyone else is either biology or
environmental science. So I really want to bring a chemical=A0perspective
