Is anyone maintaining a pot of hazelnut flavored
coffee
throughout the day? One component of the hazelnut flavor
decomposes under
extended heating conditions and produces such an odor.
Sometimes the
ventilation causes it to move surprising distances in unexpected
directions. I've know of instances where the coffee was not
adjacent to
the location of the odor complaint, and spaces in-between did not have
the odor
(as confirmed by people who did smell it in the complaint area) but
removal of
the hazelnut flavored coffee did eliminate the odor.

We have a strong “dirty socks” odor
present in one of our
micro labs. It’s a pretty typical lab using media and
cultures,
etc. and we are systematically removing everything and deconning
but
this odor is persisting. I know I have smelt this chemical
before, maybe
back in my undergraduate days, but it is really a sickening
odor. Any
ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank
you!
