ST. LOUIS =95 Three police officers were sent to the hospital after
encountering a substance at the Mansion House apartment building this
afternoon that made them feel ill.
Police said the officers were executing a search warrant in one of the
units in the building, at 300 North Fourth Street, when they opened a
container and were hit with a strong smell, apparently from some sort of
chemical substance. The search warrant was not drug-relate, authorities
said.
They experienced headaches, breathing problems and sweating, but are
expected to be OK, police said.
Police and the fire department's hazmat team are investigating and do
not yet have any more information about what was inside the container.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News)- Fire and hazmat crews responded to a South
Salt Lake business tonight after employees complained of smoke and a
terrible smell.

The incident was reported at Entec Composite Machines at 2975 south 300

some type of chemical reaction. Investigators say this reaction was
responsible for the smell.

WEST NORRITON, TWP., PENNSYLVANIA. - July 28, 2011 (WPVI) -- Residents
of a Montgomery County neighborhood are safe and sound, after living
through a hazmat scare on Wednesday night.

Firefighters had thought they discovered a meth lab at a home on the
street.

They blocked off traffic for more than nine hours, while they examined
chemicals in the home and removed them.

Officials later determined the questionable materials in the house were
chemicals the homeowner used for a cleaning service.

The township says the hazmat scare started when one of its employees was
delivering a sewage bill to the house, and smelled a strange odor.

That employee also spotted unlabeled chemical bottles in the yard.

LOWER TOWNSHIP - Household solvents and building materials caused a
chemical reaction when they mixed, causing smoke to pour out of a
township trash truck on Wednesday, July 20.

Emergency personnel responded on a HazMat basis.

Officials said the materials were picked up in the township=92s
Tranquility section, from a house undergoing renovations.

The smoking truck=92s contents were dumped at the township=92s Public
Works yard on Seashore Road, where HazMat personnel used sand to stop
the chemical reaction.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Three Pike Township businesses were evacuated
Wednesday morning following a hazardous materials incident in the 7900
block of Georgetown Road.

Employees noticed some 55-galon plastic barrels were expanding under
pressure from their contents and called 911.

Pike Township firefighters arrived on the scene and immediately began
trying to determine what was inside the containers and how to proceed.

None of the containers leaked or spilled any substance.

HAZMAT teams wrapped up their investigation just before 1 p.m. and
declared the scene safe.

Investigators are still searching for a cause after a massive chemical
fire at Naeja Pharmaceuticals in southeast Edmonton Tuesday. The blaze
caused $7 million in damage.

Naeja Pharmaceuticals President and CEO Chris Micetich told CTV News a
fire broke out over the lunch hour Tuesday in a refrigerator used to
store chemicals. He says staff heard what sounded like a champagne
bottle popping in the fridge.

"They opened up the fridge and they noticed there was a solvent that had
spilled a little bit and while they were trying to determine what
happened there was a spark and a flame broke out within the
refrigerator."

Edmonton Fire Rescue received a 911 call after staff failed to contain
the chemical. Sixty-five staff members working at the lab escaped
safely.

An air quality advisory in southeast Edmonton was ordered following the
explosion and blaze, with officials asking nearby residents to stay
indoors -- keeping their furnaces and air conditioners off due to
potentially toxic smoke.

Police and fire units responded to a call for a "Hazardous Materials
Incident" shortly before 5 p.m. today and are still on the scene with
Hazmat crews and other emergency personnel. Officials expect to be
working on the scene into the early morning hours.

The original call came from a West Norriton License & Inspection
official who arrived at the home at 134 Burnside Ave. sometime after 4
p.m. to deliver a sewage bill. The L&I officer reportedly smelled a
strong chemical odor coming from the rear of the house and called West
Norristown police to investigate.

Once on the scene, police located a number of unlabeled containers
behind the house that appeared to contain chemicals. Police alerted the
West Norriton Fire Department and Hazmat crews of the situation.

Fire officials have dismissed rumors circulating through the
neighborhood that the chemicals are part of a meth lab operation.

flipped it over and were able to contain the leak. The company's
building was evacuated as a precaution. There were no injuries

Supermarkets in the southwestern Chinese city of Mianyang were facing
shortages of bottled water Wednesday amid panic buying after water
supply from a river was contaminated by waste from a manganese plant.

Government fire trucks were also delivering water to communities after
local authorities learned that heavy rains washed waste into the Fujiang
River from the Xichuan Minjiang Electrolytic Manganese Plant in the
county of Songpan.
The river accounts for 70 percent of the drinking water supply of
Mianyang communities.
Tests of water samples from the river showed there is 1.888 milligrams
of manganese per liter and 3.349 milligrams of ammonia and nitrogen per
liter. The safe level is 0.1 and 0.5 milligrams, respectively.

Residents in Antelope Valley, Calif., have been evacuated after a
freight train carrying at least 14 cars of hazardous material derailed,

Officials are concerned about any chemical or gas leak that could have
occurred, according to the report.

the train left the track, Reuters reported. Some were overturned. The
exact chemical contents were not immediately known.

Two hazmat teams and about 60 fire department personnel responded to the
