The University of Vermont is seeking a laboratory safety professional to support and implement the University's safety and regulatory compliance program  as it relates to chemicals in laboratory and other workplace settings. The focus is on compliance with and interpretation of OSHA and EPA regulations, as well as the University's Environmental Management Plan, and providing outreach and advice to 500 campus laboratories, their PIs, faculty and lab technicians. The scope of responsibility extends to other job sites with chemical hazards, such as in  the Art and Theatre Departments and requires coordination with other safety professionals in the department to maintain a consistent safety program campus wide. Additional focus of work will include investigation of indoor air quality concerns, and safety training on topics such as bloodborne pathogens and chemical safety . 

This position reports to the Senior AssistantDirector of Health & Safety, in the Department of Risk Management &Safety and autonomously works within a broader division that has a universal commitment to workplace diversity and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great experiences to customers.  

Bachelors degree in related science and five years of experience in health and safety profession, or in a laboratory setting, is required.  Experience with OSHA and EPA regulations and their application in laboratorysettings also required.  Effective organizational and communication skills expected.

Salary Range:  $40,000 - $55,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
