I have had several requests for more information on the program. Thank you so much! We are very encouraged!

Please send requests directly to charltonsmith**At_Symbol_Here**wvwc.edu with a reply email address so that I can direct email the information to you rather than clutter up the DCHAS-List with replies.

Thank you.

Can you forward me the schedule of courses that a CHO major would be required to take?

Thanks,

Subject: [DCHAS-L] ANNOUNCEMENT: BS-CHO program starting Fall 2012 at WVWesleyan College

Greetings Everyone,

I am pleased to announce that Curriculum Council, Faculty Senate and the Administration of WV Wesleyan College have approved the first BS-CHO program. This program is a Chemical Hygiene Officer Bachelor of Science Major specifically designed to educate students in the profession of the Chemical Hygiene Officer. Coursework includes standard BS-Chemistry courses plus Experiential Learning (internship) courses, Survey of IH/HAZWOP, Toxicology, Environmental Law & Politics and in the final semester senior year CHO: Preparation for the Profession.

A few "thank-you's" are in order, for without the advice and consultations from the following, I don't think I could have pulled this together:

Russ Phifer (NRCC, WCEnvironmental)=96 fundamental in helping me organize thoughts & ideas, pointing me towards resources and working out the curriculum

Barbara Foster (WVU-Director Lab Safety) =96 for her staunch support, letting me pick her brain, bounce ideas off her and work out course specifics

Wayne Appleton (DuPont, Acacia) =96 for his 25 years of experience as a HazMat Tech & Emergency Responder and sharing his considerable knowledge

Jim Kaufman & LSI =96 for inspiring me 15 years ago in this field

Neal Langerman (ACSafety) =96 for pointing me in the direction of excellent text books

And of course… DCHAS-List =96 believe me when I say I have learned quite a bit from this list!
