DCHAS Members,

If you are internationally involved with laboratories and/or safety programs, I would like to encourage you to submit an abstract for the 245th Meeting of the American Chemical Society. I am organizing a symposium entitled: "Health, Safety, Security, and Environment: A Global Prospective". The symposium is meant to attract safety professionals from around the world and I am especially interested in college campuses and research facilities and the challenges they face. All of us in this field go through daily trails and tribulations that are in many cases amplified due to our locale. It is my goal to get as many of us as possible in the same room to discuss some the issues we face and hopefully learn from each other.

The full symposium description is:

Colleges and universities play an integral role in bringing the world closer together. In today's world of international collegiate campuses, university joint ventures, and worldwide technology parks, HSSE concerns are historically underrepresented during the initial startup phase in foreign locales. Further compounding the complexities are compliance issues from the home campus perspective viewed through the lens of the new operating location and the reality that the concepts of safety and security are not always the same amongst different cultures. The goal of this symposium is to bring together safety professionals from around the world to offer their perspective on the current state and future of HSSE at their respective international organizations with the intent of fostering a better understanding of Duty of Care requirements that must be met within international operations.
