Allegedly, the price difference isn't always that much (between the flammable one you need and the explosion-proof one you don't - but will serve same purpose).  This according to a client of mine who responded this way when I made the "cost difference" observation during an audit recently.  As long as you know the difference when shopping Kyle - which it appears that you did already.

=0AYou probably do not need an explosion proof refrigerator. A flammable storage refrigerator is less expensive, and will protect its contents from ignition. A more expensive explosion proof refrigerator is needed only when the outside area surrounding the refrigerator contains flammable vapors.

=0AWe have an area near our new NMR where we will be storing deuterated organic solvents. I have convinced my colleague who is in charge of the NMR that we can't use a simple dorm fridge for storing the small volumes of solvents. But I would love to follow up with him on any iinfo all of you could provide about inexpensive small (5 cu ft) flammable storage refrigerators or explosion proof fridges.
