We had pressure reliefs installed on the lids.  Normally they install them on the sides but we were concerned with clogging.  The lids will also pop before the pressure is so great that the bottle would rupture.  The vent is only as safety precaution in case something was not quenched properly.  Nothing is routinely vented.  I can not say that anything has ever come out of the vents.
