Well, I have a bunch of problems with that article. I only endorse the veiw that there are a lot of SDSs with incorrect information on them, but his choices of illustrations are sometimes misleading. In particular, the one about the cancer warning on Vaseline. The incoorect assumption he makes is that all of the Vaseline products on the market worldwide have been refined to the point that the carcinogens have been removed. Prop 65 people were the first to note that some of these products were indeed carcinogens worthy of a warning label. So the when he says:
"Now, there was a reason for the hazard warning because if any supplier was taking the information from the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) website, Petrolactum or Vaseline did carry a carcinogen warning but with this comment: "The classification as a carcinogen need not apply if the full refining history is known and it can be shown that the substance from which it is produced is not a carcinogen".
This is a wonderful regulation because it means the packager has to insure that the jobber is indeed sending stuff that has been properly refined. Have you ever tried to track back to see who is supplying what to whom? It can be a string of jobbers all over the world who are each taking a product, slapping their label over the old one and selling the stuff in smaller and smaller lots.
Some of these use materials really intended for lubrication products as cosmetic grade Petrolatum. So it is easy to supply people with the cheap stuff.

Hello everyone,
Bob gave this paper at the BCCE at UNC in August and also at the ECRICE Conference in Barcelona in September, as well as in the UK.
As a long time demonstrator, workshop and classroom activity facilitator, and reviewer for chemical activities for education, I endorse Bob's point of view.
Best regards to all.
David
