Well.........maybe not. OSHA has a good plan: always cite and fine the employer.
How many of you have ever been called on to train school administrators in chemical safety?
Yet they make the rules, hire and fire, read resumes. What a unique idea: Administrators should know enough about the what the school is teaching 1) to pick qualified personnel and 2) provide OSHA training and make it mandatory.
I always invite administrators to the training and they are almost always "too busy." And the schools where I've had the most effect are those where one administrator actually has gone through my day-long harangue and passed my test.

You PROSECUTE the person who performed this "experiment". Yeah, I know, poor naive teacher, I'm sure he/she feels awful. Well, boo-hoo. In my mind this is no different than if someone without a driver=E2=80™s license drove a bus full of preschool kids off an overpass. Houston has a chance to take stand and make a difference here, to be the vanguard of making people think about safety. And they will likely piss it away. Charge the teacher, let him/her cop it down to a misdemeanor, whatever, but PROSECUTE because that will make way more headlines and way more impact. I cite the prosecution of Patrick Harran in the death of Sheri Sangji as a powerful example.
I called the Houston DA's office yesterday - and they shunted me over to Communications instead of someone in enforcement, and all I got was a voicemail. Despite leaving a voicemail that this demo is well known to be dangerous etc. and explaining that I would be willing to supply them with dozens of accounts where this nonsense has occurred again and again, I have not even received the courtesy of a reply. I'll give it another day or two and another try before I assume they don't want no northerners telling them their business-.

So, how do we more adequately reach all of these teachers and others who do not have enough training? What can WE do?
