Thanks Jim for your always insightful knowledge.  I have never seen this problem before.  I am looking for best practices on what to look at and how frequently.  We have been testing the movement and if course verifying the face velocity.  But I now believe that we will also want to do an actual inspection of the balance mechanism.  I have only had these hoods for about 2 years!!!

I hope to learn more from the supplier tomorrow.

We had one client who had five cables snap in three years.

There have been broken fingers, hands, wrists, and arms.

Cables should be inspected regularly.  Otherwise, you might discover by accident that you gave guillotine in your lab ... Jim

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone experienced issues with sash mechanisms?  I had one fail yesterday from what initially appears to be failure of the belt of the counterweight mechanism.  These fume hoods are fairly new and I am wondering how often it is recommended that these mechanisms be inspected.  And, does anyone have a written recommended procedure for such inspections that they are willing to share?

Thank you,

Monique
