Demystify:

I have a nephew who recently finished his MS in chemical engineering.  He has taken a job with a medium-size technical consulting firm and part of his responsibilities will be working with teams where his role will be to examine the “big picture” of suggested plant renovations that includes issues of safety.  He and I chatted quite a bit about this and I suggested to him that joining a professional organization, or two, would be a very wise move.  I opined about the value of the D-CHAS list serve and suggested that organizations (perhaps more targeted towards chemical engineers) might have similar resources.  How would you advise him?
