The Falmouth Fire/Rescue Department responded to a hazardous materials call on Seapit Road in Waquoit on Friday, September 20.

According to a Facebook post by fire department personnel, "the homeowner accidentally over-chlorinated an indoor hot tub, resulting in high levels of chlorine in the home."

The responding incident commander requested a Tier 1 hazmat response from the regional HazMat team. The HazMat team includes representatives from the Falmouth, Mashpee, Yarmouth, Dennis and Freetown Fire Departments under the supervision of Chief Pete Burke of the Hyannis Fire Department.

The house was cleared in approximately one hour. There were no injuries to the residents or responding firefighters.

Reports indicate "the crew from Engine 25 was able to successfully remove the family cat from the home unharmed."

Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam has stated that it would take over three months to relocate all chemical warehouses in Male' city away from residential areas.

The minister's statement comes after a massive fire broke out at a warehouse in capital Male', which torched down three additional warehouses in the area and six homes. While the fire claimed the life of one, the government has announced its swift decision to relocate chemical warehouse away from residential areas.

Minister Aslam said the industrial village that the former administration began developing is not suitable to store chemicals and conduct industrial works at. Several difficulties will be caused if an industrial zone is established at the site, said the minister.

By day, Sami Raheb was the chief chemist at a northern beaches chemical company.

The industrial chemist from Warriewood was a director of the business, which produced chemical solutions including cleaning agents. But an explosion in a lab at the company headquarters would land Raheb in jail, shining a light on a criminal enterprise using legally obtained chemicals as precursors in the manufacture of drugs.

Sami Raheb will be eligible for parole next year.

Authorities have historically targeted criminal organisations importing ready-made illicit drugs but criminal groups are taking advantage of industries that legally import chemicals for legitimate use.

From medical facilities to cleaning companies, schools and universities, organised crime is increasingly targeting genuine industries to obtain precursors to make drugs like ice and ecstasy.

SPATE OF FIRES PROMPT HAYSTACK WARNING

CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington said firefighters responded to a record number of haystack fires last fire season.

‰??Over the previous fire season CFA crews responded to close to 90 haystack fires ‰?? more than any season before.

‰??North West Victoria was a hot spot last fire season and remains a concern for CFA. Dry conditions have meant some crops have failed with farmers having to cut crops for hay raising the potential risk of haystack fires.

‰??It is important for farmers when you‰??re preparing your property for the fire season that your haystacks are prepared, put away and stored safely.‰??

CO Warrington emphasised that haystacks can pose a great danger and occupy crucial firefighting resources for days during a potentially extreme fire season.

ISTANBUL ON EDGE OVER FEAR OF CHEMICAL RAIN AFTER FACTORY FIRE

Discoloured rainwater in Istanbul on Friday prompted concerns among Istanbul residents over exposure to chemical substances, after a fire in a chemical factory on Thursday in Tuzla Organised Industrial Zone on the Asian part of the province, Duvar news site reported.

People living around Tuzla panicked on Friday as they noticed yellow and white water running down the streets after a heavy rain, the left -leaning news site said.

‰??Now poisonous water is raining on our heads,‰?? said a resident of Tuzla who wanted to remain anonymous. ‰??What will happen if we die? They take no precautions and now they say ‰??the wind carried them away, nobody should be afraid of‰??.‰??

Turkey‰??s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, AFAD, said early Friday that no negative findings had been detected in measurements had been made after the fire.

"According to the information received from the General Directorate of Meteorology, it is foreseen that pollutant emissions that will be released into the atmosphere as a result of fire will leave our country until late at night and will not create an extraordinary effect in any region of our country due to the expected rainfall on Friday,‰?? the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation said in a written statement.

PHOENIX (AP) ‰?? Authorities in Phoenix say a reported chemical spill at a post office Saturday turned out to involve a shattered glass bottle of acetone, which is used in nail polish remover.

Hazardous-materials personnel and police had responded to a report of a package exploding and Fire Department spokesman said three postal workers had "minor complaints" to their exposure to the then-unidentified chemical.

Fire Capt. Danny Gile later said the chemical was acetone and that "there was no malicious intent suspected" in connection with the package.

TOWN OF DICKINSON (WBNG) ‰?? New York State Police say one man is dead after an explosion inside a underground fuel tank Friday afternoon.

Authorities say a company called Environmental Products and Services of Vermont was working on a tank used for underground fuel storage at the Speedway gas station in the Town of Dickinson. The company has an office in Syracuse.

One worker was inside the eight foot deep tank on the corner of Old Front and Front Streets when he was killed.

RISK OF FURTHER EXPLOSIONS AT SSI SITE AS EFFORTS CONTINUE TO MAKE AREA 'TOTALLY SAFE'

Further explosions are possible at a chemical plant in South Bank where two men died on Thursday .

While the risk is "minimal", fire bosses can not say when the coke ovens at the former SSI site in will be "totally safe".

It means the bodies of the workers killed remain "in situ" on the site as one tower continued to burn and specialists are drafted in.

Cleveland Fire Brigade's area manager Steve Johnson said on Friday that the incident is now "contained on site" and there is no risk to the public.

But questions remain about the cause of Thursday's fireball explosion, which killed two contractors working to decommission the plant.

SALEM ‰?? The Salem Fire Department evacuated the 109-room Holiday Inn at 1 Keewaydin Drive in Salem Friday afternoon after people in the building fell ill from chemical fumes.

Battalion Chief Craig Lemire said the fumes originated in the indoor pool area after maintenance workers mixed hydrochloric acid with chlorine, apparently in a mistaken attempt to prepare the pool cleaning chemicals.

Lemire said one maintenance worker became sick along with two restaurant workers in a Margaritas Mexican Restaurant located in the floor above the pool after the fumes wafted through the ventilation system.

‰??The main health risk would be inhalation hazards; nausea, vomiting, exactly what they had,‰?? Lemire said.

The gas leakage was reported from several areas including Powai, Chembur, Mankhurd in the eastern Mumbai.

It was later found that the gas leakage started at the Rashtriya Chemical Fertiliser plant in Chembur.
