Et al,

As I think I'm the only or one of the few physicians in D-CHAS,, I will reiterate some of what the US CDC, European CDC, and WHO/OMS have said: social distancing (don't attend large gatherings), personal hygiene (frequent hand washing with either a sanitizer or warm water and soap), bump elbows rather than shake hands or hugs or do air kisses, if feeling ill, for anything that matters sake stay home, If sneezing or coughing, cover your face..Seek medical evaluation and care if serious pulmonary symptoms are present. Masks: The one you see in media reports are largely ineffective, especially when worn below the noce. An N-95 mrespirator would likely be effecti8ve. Personally, if I was young enough to treat such patients, I'd ewar level BTyvek with a PAPR and HEPA filters. You can't do diddly as a physician in Level A.

Simple public health measures.

I've been euchared out of attending 3 major important medical/scientific Congresses, and I'm not going to cry about it.

Foir my 2 cents worth, the Community College where I occasioanbly teach the toxicology parts of forensic science uses an online system called "Moogle". It wasn't particularly user-friendly (for teacher or student), but it worked..

Do keep in mind that despite all the media hype, the regular annual influenza season has traditionally made more people ill and caused a higher fatality rate that this COVID-19. However, if what's happening is overkill, it's overkill in the right direction. Always better safe than sorry.

For putting this in perspective, suggested reading:

Moore P. The Little Book of Pandemics. 50 of the World's most Virulent Plagues and Infectious Diseases. Elwin Strete Limited, London, UK, 2007; ISBN 13:978-1-006-761-26-4, 237 pages.

I also recommend Zoom. While I=E2=80™ve not used it in a class/lecture situation, I have participated in Zoom meetings in ways that make me think it would serve well for Monona=E2=80™s presentations. FWIW, the Osher Lifetime Learning Institutes, 62 % of which have now suspended their classes and activities, are exploring Zoom as a platform for virtual classrooms.

Our campus uses Canvas as the instruction-management platform. It includes on-line learning and teleconferencing options. I'm told it's spectacularly expensive but very flexible and useful.
We also use Zoom for conference calls and collaboration. For small'ish groups (maybe 30 or less), it works pretty well. It's not super-intuitive but not super-complicated. There's a chat option (in addition to the typical conference call audio), attendance is tracked as people sign in to the online space, you can "share" your computer screen to present what you need to present. Zoom.com I use it quite a lot.

Then maybe you can point me in the right direction. I am also going to have to take this tack. I need a conferencing system that can do the following:
When the student calls in, they see slide # 1 of my powerpoint on their screen and I can hear their voice and talk to them. As each one signs in, we'll talk and I'll take attendance. Then we'll go slide by side through the power point, I'll explain the technical material and answer questions. I've never done anything on line this way, but this is what I need. Ideas?

The last couple of days have been really crazy - and I am scrambling to make sure my folks have the resources to convert to virtual/online learning. Additionally, I know that the small businesses and others are doing the same thing.
I was wondering if should send out the links to our folks about the resources we have in place already.
