No injuries were reported after an ammonia leak forced the evacuation of the Maple Lodge Farms plant, Brampton Fire Services said Sunday.

Emergency crews were called to the facility on Winston Churchill Boulevard, north of Steeles Avenue West, for a report of a chemical leak at around 8:16 a.m.

Police and fire officials said they asked people in the surrounding area to stay indoors for a time as emergency crews conducted an investigation.

That request, which fire officials said was precautionary only, was lifted at 2 p.m.

Acting Platoon Chief David van Houten said crews are working to clear the plant of the ammonia gas. He said they expect to clear the scene by Sunday evening.

It appears the leak was caused when a worker doing maintenance work inserted a screw into a pipe that was carrying the gas, he said.

On Sunday May 31, 2020 at 13:42 hours, the Guelph Fire Department responded to a report of a female having respiratory issues due to a possible chemical exposure at 35 Cooper Drive, Goodleaf Farms. Firefighters arrived at the scene with Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service.

On arrival, there were three employees from Goodleaf Farms in front of the building. They were complaining of headaches, and respiratory issues. Firefighters immediately had all employees evacuate the building while paramedics attended to the medical needs of the three staff affected.

The Guelph Fire Department Hazardous Materials Unit attended and firefighters entered the building taking various air quality readings and samples. The results from this were inconclusive. The three staff members that were examined by paramedics all declined to be assessed at the Guelph General Hospital. The Ministry of Labour were contacted by Guelph Fire Dispatch and attended the scene to further investigate the cause.

An investigation conducted by a Nashville television news station has revealed that cloth masks distributed by the state of Tennessee, and manufactured in Cleveland, were treated with a potentially harmful chemical.

According to NewsChannel 5, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's website states that Silvadur can ‰??cause irreversible eye damage" and "cause skin burns."

In addition, EPA said the substance is ‰??harmful if absorbed through skin,‰?? and is ‰??harmful if inhaled.‰??

The substance is an antimicrobial designed to ward off odors.

"I wouldn't wear one,‰?? Dr. Warren Porter, a professor of environmental toxicology at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a board member for the environmental group Beyond Pesticides, told the news station. "Nobody wants to breathe in COVID, but I wouldn't want to be breathing in something that I also knew could be poisoning my body in a relatively short period of time and might be having multi-year effects on my health."

The masks, which are produced at Renfro‰??s sock plant on Michigan Avenue Road, cost the state some $8.2 million, according to media reports.

With the World fighting battle against Coronavirus pandemic, using hand-sanitizer has become mandatory in order to stay safe from COVID-19. But are those sanitisers flammable? Can they catch fire considering they are alcohol based?

Amitabh Bachchan shared a video on his Twitter timeline where a man can be seen experimenting and answering ‰?? 'Can sanitizer make you catch on fire?' The man begins by dropping a small portion of sanitizer on the plate and lights a match stick on it to see if there is a fire. But there is nothing that is seen ‰?? no flame or fire.

But he then takes a tissue and brings it closer to the sanitizer and it immediately catches fire because there was an invisible flame coming out of the sanitizer that was not visible to the naked eye or the mobile camera. The man further claims that even though the flame is not visible but when you keep your hand around it, one feels the heat. Bachchan shared the video and wrote, "Whoaa" (surprise).
