Hyderabad: A fire broke out in a chemical company at the industrial area in Mallapur on the city outskirts in Nacharam here on Sunday evening. No casualties were reported in the fire which is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit.

According to the police, locals in the nearby residential area noticed the huge fire and thick smoke emanating from the unit and alerted the fire department and the police personnel.

Fire caught the plastic containers which were filled with the chemicals. Due to the presence of chemicals, there was dark and thick smoke covering the surroundings.

The Nacharam police along with the fire department officials with the help of four fire engines doused the fire in about two hours. The management is yet to lodge a complaint and give out an estimation of the damaged property. The Nacharam police are investigating the matter.

ROXBURY - Firefighters and Morris County hazmat units were dispatched to battle a factory fire late Thursday that consumed two tanks capable of storing 50,000 gallons of a "hot melt" chemical used to laminate paper products, Roxbury fire investigator Mark Sylvestor said.

The tanks were allowed to burn and the chemical to vaporize while responders prevented the fire from damaging the building at Holland Manufacturing on North Main Street in the Succasunna section, he said.

No one was injured and there "is no hazard to the public at this point from any of the vapor that came off the tanks," Sylvester said Friday.

He was the lead investigator on the scene after the facility's security guard called in the fire to 911 at about 11:40 p.m. Thursday.
