I just provide the last part of the conclusion to those who want to use this paper, which was also the only "evidence" cited in the JAMA opinion piece that started that nonsense. And it reads:
They are less effective against smaller particles, which can remain airborne for extended periods and can easily flow around a face shield to be inhaled. Thus, face shields can provide a useful adjunct to respiratory protection for workers caring for patients with respiratory infections. However, they cannot be used as a substitute for respiratory protection when it is needed.
I'm thinking of having this chiseled into stone tablets. Monona

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Efficacy of Face Shields Against Cough Aerosol Droplets from a Cough Simulator
Hello all,
I don=E2=80™t know if this article has been shared yet, but it relates face shield efficacy against aerosol size particles. Methodology used influenza virus with cough and respiration simulators. Not earth shattering,
but something you can share with anyone wanting to use face shields in lieu of masks.
Thanks,
