OK, look at the studies of the number of particles and their sizes that are emitted when people talk, cough, and just breathe.  That data is out there.  Now, put that source behind a shield.  The only thing that changes is the direction of the particle emissions.  The shield can't filter ANYTHING.  Maybe a few big droplets will stick, but basically your source is the same with or without a shield.  Only the direction it is emitted changes.

You won't see a study of this because it is obvious. No one will waste time on it.   What possible theory could you develop that could result in capture of any significant amount of droplets or aerosols being released by changing their direction?

I don't think there are any studies that have looked at face shields as a form of source control.  If anyone knows of something, please do share.  I'm sure that, too, would not contain surprising information, but it would be helpful to point to when you have individuals who believe face coverings and face shields serve the same purpose.

I don=E2=80™t know if this article has been shared yet, but it relates face shield efficacy against aerosol size particles. Methodology used influenza virus with cough and respiration simulators. Not earth shattering, but something you can share with anyone wanting to use face shields in lieu of masks.
