I talked to my county board of elections here in NJ and the state has apparently already stocked all the PPE and signage the poll workers need for the general election.
We haven't decided yet if it will be my wife or I who will step up to do our civic duty and volunteer to work the polls to help fill in for the older and more vulnerable members of our community who normally handle this task (the other one gets to run the business that day). But we will definitely be bringing our own PPE, that's for sure and it will be an N95 PLUS a face shield PLUS our own personal hand sanitizer. Some facts about poll workers:
BTW, the election board actually pays $200 to poll workers, but you have to do training beforehand. An on the day of the election you must arrive by 5:15 AM work until after 8 PM. That's a long day. Hope the ventilation is good!

I agree that face shields are inadequate. Good luck in the laboratory.
This is also going to be an issue for poll workers, that's two months away, but preparations are beginning for that.
I will not admit to being a packrat, but I have ~100 acetate transparencies and I saw a vid of
using one, with a hole punch to slip your eyeglass temples through, to make a cheap face shield if needed. If someone is standing with a line of 100s ppl coming by, some sort of mask to filter incoming air and a face shield to deflect the buggars is prudent.
