Speaking as a member of the ANSI Z-87.1 committee ....

The ANSI Z-87.1 does not certify. It provides a group of criteria and recommendations that were adopted by OSHA in 29CFR1910.133.

Eye and Face Protection device manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that their products meet the requirements of the standard.

This is unlike the ANSI Z-358.1 standard which specifically includes the word "certify" in it's glossary and recommendations. ... Jim

LEIGH KRIETSCH BOERNER. C&EN Staff, has a thorough article on chemical splash resistant goggles in Chemical & Engineering News (August 31, 2020, p. 20) The article also reports the results of test subjects using the goggles for 2-hour periods prior to rating. Honeywell UVEX Flex Seal was the highest rated goggle.

Is the D3 rating needed only on goggles that are sold overseas (i.e., not in the U.S.)?

If such indirect vented goggles do not have the D3 rating are they not considered chemical splash resistant in the U.S.? Can these not be worn/used as chemical splash resistant goggles?

I do have copies of ANSI Z87.1 (2020, 2015, 2010, 2003, 1989). I'm just seeking some clarity.
