Here's one that should be SOP:

Whenever someone retires, **they** clean out their chemicals before the last paycheck, party, etc.

1, In the 90s, we found a bottle of HF(aq) tucked away in the acid cabinet. Set it down, back away slowly, ...

2, About 15 yr ago, I met a guy (now deceased) who ran a jewelry store and he had a 55 gal drum each of conc HCl and HNO3. He played around making various metal objects (including dissolving gold) but was winding down and he asked me - a chemist - what to do with the barrels of acids. I called the manufacturer and asked if they would take back, shipping prepaid, but they said no. One problem was that the drums were in a basement workshop, stairs only, going down much easier than going up and as far as I know, the drums are still there.

Good luck!

Joe

Does anyone have any references as to what the contents of this container are?
