Might be worth a call to Penguin to see if they'll send you a review copy. If that doesn't work, there are several kids chemistry experiment books on Amazon that are included in their Kindle Unlimited program (free).

The Penguin Publisher link provides a secondary link to the intro which says (paraphrasing to avoid copyright infringement): All of the experiments can (emphasis added) be done safely as long as the reader pays close attention to the icons and notes to avoid injury or damaging household goods.

This suggests that things could get wonky if one doesn't do things exactly as instructed. It would be worth a more thorough vetting.

Hi all,

We‰??re putting together C&EN‰??s Newscripts annual gift guide, and one of the suggestions for it is Kate Bieberdorf‰??s Kate the Chemist: The Big Book of Experiments. Has anyone looked at the book and, if so, do you have any safety concerns? I‰??d expect that the publisher would have vetted it, but I also know that Kate goes for big drama in television appearances.
