Reviews on Amazon are good, although one says many of the experiments use dry ice and another says most of the chemicals would not be found around the house. It's hard to tell from the titles of the experiments what is involved.

ACS has 2 books for young kids (pre-K to 2nd grade) that are very good: Apples, Bubbles, and Crystals and Sunlight, Skyscrapers, and Soda Pop. Also, anything by Vicki Cobb is good.

Hi all,

We're putting together C&EN's Newscripts annual gift guide, and one of the suggestions for it is Kate Bieberdorf's Kate the Chemist: The Big Book of Experiments. Has anyone looked at the book and, if so, do you have any safety concerns? I'd expect that the publisher would have vetted it, but I also know that Kate goes for big drama in television appearances.
