Bill,

I don't work in our hospital, but the safety considerations should be fully transferrable. We ask that people transporting waste in our buildings wear lab-appropriate attire (e.g. long pants and close-toed shoes). The waste containers themselves should be sealed and free from external contamination, so there should be no need to wear PPE during transport.

We do ask that anyone transporting waste bring with them whatever PPE would be appropriate for containing a spill, should one occur. But, as you've said, that shouldn't be worn in public areas otherwise.

Hello All,

I'm being asked to address uniforms for chemical waste pickup in a hospital (histology waste, in particular). I figured that you all may have some experience in the matter.

For those of you working at hospitals, or other clinical environments, what type of uniform, attire, and/or PPE do your waste pickup techs wear?

I don't mean for bulking, but for transport within buildings and outside to a facility or truck.

I've tried to bring up using lab coats, but there's a blanket ban on PPE in public areas for various reasons (I can look to getting an exception for this specific process, but it's not a trivial process, so I really want to be sure about what I want before pursuing it)
