FRANKLIN COUNTY, GA (FOX Carolina)- The Georgia Department of Transportation says truck crash causing the spill of hazardous materials near Sandy Cross Road in Franklin County is delays on all northbound lanes of traffic on I-85.

Georgia Department of Safety officials say that a commercial vehicle carrying hazardous material crashed near mile marker 160 in Franklin County. The hazardous material spilled as a result of the crash, according to officials.

Initially, the entire interstate was shut down, but around 11 p.m., Department of Public Safety officials said southbound lanes were reopened. Officials say that northbound traffic is being detoured off of the nearby exit ramp and allowed back onto I-85 on the other side.

Officials say that a hazmat team is currently working to clean up the spill and load the hazardous material onto another truck. Officials add that the hazardous spill is contained at this time.

As the UK‰??s legal system finds its feet post-Brexit, stakeholders have mixed feelings about the changes it could bring

Four months into the UK being fully divorced from the EU, the chemical industry has had its first taste of operating under a separate legal system for chemicals. But rather than get their teeth into a fully thought-out version of the country‰??s own Reach (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals) legislation, companies are facing a law that is just beginning to evolve.

Initially a direct copy of its EU counterpart, the practicalities and consequences of implementing UK Reach (the law‰??s official name, despite applying only in England, Scotland and Wales) are playing out gradually. The last few months were defined by companies grandfathering their EU chemical registrations to the UK system. If done by the 30 April deadline, this guaranteed continued access to the British market.

Britain lost access to the EU‰??s chemicals database under the terms of the Brexit trade agreement
The process went relatively smoothly, according to County Durham-based chemical manufacturer Thomas Swan, whose in-house regulatory experts prepared early. ‰??In 2018, we started surveying all our suppliers to make sure they were aware of the potential new UK registration requirements,‰?? says regulatory affairs manager, John Mackenzie. By the time UK Reach came into force, the company was certain that its supply chain was solid. Thomas Swan has so far grandfathered 24 EU substance registrations to the UK system, ‰??without any major issues‰??.

London-based consultancy firm ERM sees smaller companies, who don‰??t usually have a regulatory expert, struggling more. The grandfathering deadline might well have passed by many businesses, says consultant Louise Boardall: ‰??A lot of small companies will have been caught out which is quite sad because they face difficult times now.‰??

A large fire has erupted at a chemical plant in the Iranian city of Qazvin, with local media reporting an explosion. The incident follows an overnight blaze in the port city of Bushehr, home to Iran‰??s only nuclear power plant.
The fire broke out at the plant on Saturday afternoon following a small explosion at the site. Footage circulating online shows flames emerging from the facility, with a large column of billowing black smoke.

Multiple fire engines were deployed to the location to tackle the blaze. While the explosion and the fire that followed did not inflict any casualties, at least two firefighters were injured while battling the flames, local media reported.

The fire comes hours after a major blaze broke out near the port in the southwestern coastal city of Bushehr. The city houses Iran‰??s only nuclear power plant.
