Demystify:

Well,

at Hazcat  - we do not manufacture the strips and have relied on different manufacturers over many years - so we have some experience with the various brands-

After dealing with all the brands for years and years now - we came up with a procedure to limit their use because:

  • Short shelf life
  • Expensive
  • Interferences

W still use them - but have developed a procedure that uses reagents without a shelf life.  One of the important interferences to their use is ammonia- You may be familiar with Pirahna Base solutions (3 parts ammonia/1 part hydrogen peroxide) - even though this solution contains 30% hydrogen peroxide at 25% volume - the ammonia interferes with the paper's ability to see the peroxide.

So, check it out

Here is a link to the test procedure we use to limit the reliance on test papers and remove the interferences.

Just want to say I would like to know everybody's thoughts on this as it is about time for me to replace mine as well.

Good afternoon,

Time to replace my peroxide test strips and I have found a variety...the Quantofix are kind of the "brand name" but I find they are difficult to read with organic solvents...yes, you put a drop of water on after the dunk in the ether or whatever, but..

So has anyone tried (and liked, or hated) the JT Baker TESTRIPS for Peroxide?  How about Haztech Hazcat strips?  MQuant from Sigma?

Thank you for your pro and con views on any of these...

best,

Margaret
