There are some threads on this kicking around in the bowels of the DCHAS archives:

http://www.ilpi.com/dchas/2008/20080314c.html (with nine followups in March)

http://www.ilpi.com/dchas/2010/20100604e.html (with 10 followups in June)

http://www.ilpi.com/dchas/2010/20101006a.html (with 15 followups in October)

The archives do not utilize message threading. However, you can jump back to the yearly index to see the headlines for the month if you prefer not to page through using the Next Article link.

Hi Ralph,

I have a question for the group.

What is the policy that various groups have on wearing earbuds / headphones in a Lab / chemical plant environment?  I seem to recall that this was a topic of discussion in the past.

We operate bench, pilot, and demonstration scale chemical plants at this site.  We also have a number of analytical labs.  Our evacuation procedures start with an audible alarm or page to evacuate / define the emergency.

We have thought about allowing single earbuds only but are not sure if even this is acceptable.  Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe
