This is an interesting challenge since PIs have such a wide range of hazards that they manage. If I was to take on this project, I would start with the roles and responsibilities outline of the National Academiesâ?? Practicing Safe Science publication and connect the ideas in that document to written policies for your institution. The document does a nice job of separating out roles for various stakeholders and represent national best practices.
Since you are at Land Grant college, you may also want to pick a few action items from the APLU Safety Culture publication at

to make the ideas above more concrete.
