Et al,

For some of us, "sympathy", which anyone can hav,e means "I feel sorry for you (or for what has happened)".

"Empathy" perhaps, is only felt by those of us who are empaths (who actually feel other persons pain). In Tex-Mex Spanish, when a patient told me I .."was muy simpatico", it didn't mean I was sympathetic. Eventually, kinda drove me out of clinical medicine.
