Demystify:
I added that reference to my peroxide page in the SDS HyperGlossary and updated the image with examples that are a hazard by evaporation or distillation: http://www.ilpi.com/msds/ref/peroxide.html

Oddly, ACS broke some links, so I fixed those as well.

Thanks,

Hi All,

Organic Process Research and Development published a paper on safety hazards associated with peroxide formation in 2-Propanol (IPA) published in June (see link).  Even with all previous literature and incidents, it seems that IPA is often overlooked and left off lists of peroxide forming chemicals.  The paper provides data on formation of peroxide levels from IPA stored in different containers.  Considering this publication, I would appreciate it if you could provide information on:

  1. How you currently manage IPA storage and labelling at your site?
  2. If you’ve  read the paper before this post, has this publication changed your storage and labelling guidelines for IPA at you site?
  3. Your feedback on the data and the recommendations from the authors, if any.

Thanks for any comments!
