You have to be careful. In most labs that use HPLCs there is a container on the floor to catch leaks or spillage from the system. It is good practice to make sure it is empty or emptied (moved to the satellite accumulation point) at the end of every shift. Same with trash cans that were used to handle spills or wipes that would also have to be emptied (moved to the satellite accumulation point) at the end of every shift. The secondary containers should be labeled. We never had a problem with EPA inspections just so long as we did not store waste for extend periods of time outside the satellite accumulation point. I have also seen labs use a 5 gallon safety cans as satellite accumulation points at varies spots within the lab.

Hi Everyone,
Can hazardous waste be stored in a secondary container on the floor in a lab? If not, which reg is it: EPA or OSHA?
Thank you,
