Demystify:

Flammable Hazardous waste is treated just like and is counted with all other flammables I the laboratory and is regulated by NFPA, Fire, and Building codes. For a discussion please see What is the Maximum Allowable Quantity (MAQ) of Hazardous Materials Allowed by Code in a Laboratory or Pilot Plant Area?, https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-maximum-allowable-quantity-maq-hazardous-allowed-richard-palluzi

The EPA has restrictions on waste accumulation (quantity, location, duration) that are unique to wastes. So you need to look at both areas but from different perspectives.

If the type and amount of waste stored are in keeping with NFPA 45 and 400, e.g., larger quantities of flammable hazardous waste are to be stored in a flammables cabinet.

Yes. Out of the traffic pattern and not a trip hazard - why not?

Hi Everyone,

Can hazardous waste be stored in a secondary container on the floor in a lab?  If not, which reg is it: EPA or OSHA?

Thank you,

Monique
