Demystify:

At the risk of sounding like marketing I note that I co-direct a 1 week course on Leadership and Management for EHS professionals at the Harvard School of Public Health. A live session in March and an online one in September. We have done this for 20 years. My co-director is Rick Fulwiler former Global Manager of EHS for Proctor and gamble. It has also been converted to a 2.5 credit semester course for MS and MPH candidates at Harvard.

Given Ralph's observation about the lack of management skills courses, especially for technical folks, I thought I'd mention that Lab Manager Academy has a Lab Management Certificate with 4 tracks of 5 courses each for a total of 20 courses.  [Full disclosure: I work for Lab Manager Magazine and the primary course instructor is my Manager Scott Hanton, PhD in chemistry]

The full 20-course certificate is currently $1499

Each track of 5 courses is $449

Each individual course is just $99 (all are USD)

Scott's PhD is in chemistry, he worked in labs for 30 years and was a lab manager for 20 years.  I'll add that he uses the management skills he teaches and as a direct report I appreciate his experience and skills as a manager and leader.

All my best,

These courses are pricy ($500 each0, but I was talking with a colleague today about the challenge of finding management skill development opportunities, particularly for technical people, and these sound like interesting opportunities.

This series includes three separate courses. Each course consists of three 2.5 hour Zoom sessions with additional self-paced work in an online format.

Take just one, or all three!

Any or all of the courses may be taken in any order.

Course Description

This one-of-a-kind series of courses was designed by and for health and safety professionals, in partnership with leadership and change management experts.

With today’s evolving landscape, environmental health and safety leaders are looking for new ways to go beyond developing technical abilities and focus more on motivating themselves and others to act as “change agents” for reducing worker illnesses and injuries in their organizations.

What Will You Learn in Each Course?

Transformational Leadership Development for Health & Safety Professionals - January 2023

This course focuses on three positive styles of leading others and the four components of each style. You will have the opportunity to explore your thinking, feelings, and actions related to the different leadership capabilities.

Fostering Positive Psychological Capital & Emotional Effectiveness for Health and Safety Professionals - March 2023

This course will provide opportunities to examine, explore, and practice positive approaches for increasing individual and group levels of motivation, inclusivity and emotional effectiveness with the ultimate goal of fostering a safe work environment.

Accelerating Leadership development for Health and Safety Professionals - April 2023

Before you can engage in acquiring these new capabilities and skills, you first need to be in a position of being ready and willing to learn and develop. This course will provide insight into unlocking both the motivation and abilities related to launching your leadership development.

Who Should Take These Courses?

This course is intended for all safety professionals, industrial hygienists, union leaders, supervisors, managers, public health practitioners, healthcare providers, and others who are interested in leadership development.

These courses are part of the NEW Total Worker Health® Certificate Program.
