You can do the inspection in house but the person doing it should be trained I the procedure and needs the right tools. The issue is discussed in some length in Engineering Career Solutions course Selecting and Using Laboratory Hoods Safely (https://ecstechtraining.com/lab-hoods). Subject: [DCHAS-L] Hood Inspection Question
Hello -
I have a couple of questions about the yearly inspection of laboratory fume hoods.
- Can the inspection be performed in house or do we need to contract an outside company?
- Is there a type of certification that would be required for a maintenance employee to have before doing the smoke visualization test etc.?
