Eugene and I have been colleagues and friends since the early 80's. His contributions to industrial safety are legend. His mentorship inspired generations of chemists and ChemE's to excel in safety performance.
This group was aware of his illness since early May. We mourn his loss and share our sadness and grief with his many friends and admirers.
I hope the next generation of chemical safety professionals have leaders like Eugene to inspire.
May his shining light continue to guide us.

It is sad to inform the division members
that Eugene Ngai, a long-time member of the division and recipient
of 2011 ACS Howard Fawcett Award for his contributions to chemical
safety,
has passed away on July 3rd after a short battle
with tumor uncovered in April.
Eugene just finished the
establishment of “Eugene’s Corner” websites in April this year which contains more
than 100 articles from his 50 years’ experiences in the development and safety of specialty
compressed gases. “Eugene’s Corner” can be found in the following three
