It is my understanding that OSHA and other regulatory state agencies (e.g., departments of labor, etc.) often reference the ANSI/ISEA Z358.1-2014 standard relative to emergency eyewash and shower lab safety engineering controls for guidance to help protect laboratory employees who can be potentially exposed to corrosive materials. In essence, though not a legal safety standard currently, it does serve as better professional safety practice (e.g., NSTA, NSELA, etc.). In this way, it may be considered a requirement.
