Maybe look to AOAC or a lab accrediting body for these standards.
Dear All:
Not exactly the safety question, but I am leaning on the wisdom of the group with hope that you will be able to advise me how to respond to the question , which arrived to my
safety**At_Symbol_Here**acs.org inbox?
Thank you in advance.

My name is Amanda Alfaro and I work at the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. We are in the process of updating laboratory procedures and have questions about best practices and industry standards for alcohol testing. Our onsite laboratory
tests seized alcohol for 1) the presence of alcohol, 2) alcohol content, 3) alcohol type, and/or 4) brand comparison. We were advised by the TTB to contact your organization for guidance and are hoping you can shed light on the following questions. Additionally,
we welcome the opportunity to further discuss our questions with you via conference call.
- What organization sets the standards for testing for alcohol beverage laboratories? Where can I find these standards?
- What are the “best practices” for sample testing?
- Does the shelf life of a testing sample vary based on whether it’s in a container sealed by the manufacturer or not?
- Do samples need to be stored in specific conditions before testing?
- How long is a sample good for once it is opened?
- What factors affect the integrity of an alcohol sample?
Thank you for your time and willingness to assist us with this matter. I look forward to hearing from you.
