(2)Measuring device for hood airflow

(3)Low airflow and loss-of-airflow alarms at each alarm location

(4)Face velocity

(5)Verification of inward airflow over the entire hood face

(6)Changes in work area conditions that might affect hood performance

7.14.3 Deficiencies in hood performance shall result in immediate suspension of all activities inside the hood until the deficiencies are corrected.

7.14.4 Chemical fume hood face velocity profile or hood exhaust air quantity shall be checked after any adjustment to the ventilation system balance.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Fume hood Certification

Hi All-

Based on my experience and education in EH&S, I believe the best practice is always to recertify fume hoods if any major work is done to a fume hood HVAC system. We recently had the old venturi pneumatic valves, digital flow controls and sensors replaced and upgraded as well as some other maintenance (i.e cleaning out heating coils in the ducts) this past year. I requested the fume hoods to be recertified after the project is complete, but I am getting some push back and I am being told that they will only be rebalancing the HVAC system. Can anyone shed some light on this and if there are any OSHA or ANZI regulations that would help support my request.

I respectfully acknowledge that Willamette University was built on the land of the Kalapuya, who today are represented by the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians, whose relationship with this land continues to this day. I am grateful to the land itself, to those who have stewarded it for generations, and for the opportunity to study, learn, work, and be in community on this land. I acknowledge that the University’s history, like many others, is fundamentally tied to the first colonial developments in the Willamette Valley. I respectfully acknowledge and honor past, present, and future Indigenous students of Willamette.
