Hello from upstate New York!
We provide annual training for all new faculty and staff who work in or near hazardous chemicals, as well as for all student employees and researchers who work in or near hazardous chemicals.
Our training process has evolved significantly over the last eight years and currently is comprised of a one hour in person training session which changes from year to year and incorporates suggestions from trainees in sessions past and a series of video modules that address the HazCom and RCRA information. This training is offered at the start of both semesters and required to be completed annually for the above groups.
Occasionally, a student will join a lab after the sessions have already been offered. In that case, I have them complete the online modules and then meet with me to discuss any questions and to go over what was covered in the in person sessions (to some degree-much of the in person work is done in teams and is game based, so we can't really repeat that with single persons or just a couple people).
I am responsible for maintaining the list of trainees and monitoring that they have completed all pieces and are current on the training.
I hope this helps, I'm anxious to see what others say as well, since I am always looking for new material to add to our annual sessions!

Hello,
We offer a one-time, in-person basic training (Chemical Hygiene Plan/Lab-101) for new wet lab researchers, faculty, and staff. Additionally, we provide an annual refresher course online. How does your institution
handle basic lab safety training (Lab-101)? How often is it required? Is it conducted online or in person? We are trying to understand how universities across the country manage their Lab-101 training.
