All,
If you did not know about Gist of the List (GOTL) before, I wanted to give you a heads up about it now. When Dan Kuespert was chair, we brainstormed the idea to connect DCHAS more with ACS Chemical Health & Safety (ACS CHAS) and GOTL was born.
GOTL is a feature highlighting online safety conversations fostered by the DCHAS listserv. In each issue, The Gist of the List summarizes questions discussed, including issues that are murky or that spark disagreement. This month we chose to highlight the cadavers in IPA and carpet in laboratories, https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.chas.4c00080.
This month we are also trying something new and linking ACS CHAS papers that offer additional background information, describe related safety incidents or near misses, and outline organizational approaches that have been attempted at other work locations. Several people on this listserve are linked: Rich Palluzi, Melinda Box, and Josh Powell. Russ Phifer has a great paper on waste coming out that would have been linked, but it hasn't hit the website quite yet.
LST grad students have been helping with this project and I enjoy hearing their thoughts about the online conversations that happen. Thanks so much to everyone for your insights.
Sincerely,
Mary Beth Mulcahy
