Demystify:
The American Chemical Society Committee on Chemical Safety (CCS) has recently published three short tip sheets.
  • Two tipsheets on laboratory ventilation: “The Basics of Laboratory Ventilation” and “Laboratory Ventilation Terms and Definitions.” Written for people who work in labs, both documents should improve their understanding of the purpose and function of lab HVAC and facilitate collaboration with their EHS and Facilities departments to ensure optimal performance.
  • Lithiation Reaction: Laboratory Reaction Safety Summary (LRSS), which was written for laboratory chemists who plan to conduct a lithiation reaction using liquid reagents. (Unlike a Laboratory Chemical Safety Summary (LCSS) or Safety Data Sheet (SDS), which are written specifically for laboratory chemicals, an LRSS is a brief safety guide focused on reactions.)

Please take a look at these new documents. Feel free to forward the LRSS to laboratory staff who perform lithiation reactions. The lab HVAC tipsheets should benefit everyone working in labs, as they will better understand this topic. CCS has published other useful safety documents. See “Publications and Resources” on the CCS website.
