[DCHAS-L] News that might be related to chemical safety

Dear Chemica Safety Community:

Our ACS Colleagues shared this news story with us:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/investigation-underway-into-chemical-storage-at-new-mexico-highlands-university-after-death/ar-AA1rhj06

The investigation is pending but “a strong chemical smell “ indicates a problem related to chemical safety.

Our community authored an excellent course that addresses issues related to storing, organizing and disposing chemicals and we do not see this course widely used.

I would be very grateful to you all for promoting this resource. The course is free and includes a library of templates on how to request additional resources to deal with hazardous waste.

We don’t know what happened,  but we know that nobody should be exposed to “ a strong chemical smell” at the universities.

Thank you.

Marta
