Good day all:
Last year, CHAS was awarded a two-year Innovative Project Grant (joint with the Division of Organic Chemistry) from ACS central to put on a seminar series on organic/safety topics at institutions that don’t typically attend ACS Annual Meetings.
We’re looking for speakers who can talk about safety topics relevant to organic chemistry, construed very broadly. Some talks are proceeding by Zoom, but we have some funding to send speakers physically to host institutions as well.
Would you consider speaking as part of this seminar series? Dates/times are negotiable, and if you can speak in person, so is location.
We’ve had several requests for talks in Spanish, so if you’ve got some Spanish skill, please volunteer—if your Spanish is a bit rusty, we can arrange for a native speaker to help smooth over any rough spots.
I’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in speaking.
Please contact me at dkuespert**At_Symbol_Here**pm.me. If you’re able to speak in person in addition to Zoom, please let us know, and if you’re willing to fly (at project expense), let us know that as well.
For reference, our guidelines for speakers follow this message.
Regards,
Dan
PS-If you would like to suggest another candidate, we’d appreciate contact information...

Presentation guidelines for the CHAS-ORGN lecture series in organic chemistry health & safety
1. Topics must lie in the intersection between chemical health & safety and organic chemistry, broadly construed.
2. Presentations should be comprehensible and significant to the broadest audience. It is to be expected that audience members may range from PhD organic chemists to undergraduate students (interested in chemistry) to K-12 science teachers. This is not to say that all content must be understandable at the lowest level, just that it should be comprehensible enough to be engaging.
3. Presentation should be about 30-40 minutes long; in some cases, we may be using a class period, so we want to have some time for questions.
4. Presentations should be formatted to be readable and attractive on Zoom. The use of video is discouraged because of the potential for on-site IT issues.
5. Presentations will be recorded and made available to the public via some mechanism. Presenters will be asked to sign a copyright release form to enable that.
