Chris,
I recently completed my Masters degree in Environmental Chemistry and Pollution Control in Nigeria. I am curious as to the make of the flame-resistant lab coast. This is because the chemicals that I know to impact flame resistance in materials are mostly POPs which are of concern both to human health and the environment.
I would like to learn more about this subject, thank you in advance.

Hi Precious
You are right the basic PPE'S are the same only as per the requirement of the experiments the PPE's can be modified or used.
Regards
Rupesh
Hello everyone....
Inasmuch as there are differences between the both courses(biology and chemistry), I concur to the similarities between their laboratory requirements..
While medical students are meant to wear their protective clothing during experiments, chemistry students are also advised to do same....
The infrastructure of the both only differs. General laboratory requirements applies to both Chemistry and Biology students while experimenting in the laboratory.
Thanks!
NOt an academic institution, but a production lab. We use all of the same PPE in Microbiology as in Chemistry, and also require masks to prevent sample contamination.
We deal with BSL2 organisms, which are handled in a biosafety cabinet. We also have UV eye protection for the BSCs.
Our waste is disposed of as Regulated Medical Waste or agars are mixed with a bleach solution, which is treated as hazardous waste. We do not handle tissue or blood-borne pathogens. From a chemical perspective, we mostly use bleach solutions for cleaning in the micro lab, which we have to ensure are not mixed with incompatible chemicals, namely alcohol.

Subject: biology safety rules
Hi all,
I know this is a chemistry safety group, but many of us are the CHO's of our institutions and therefore also deal with chemicals in biology labs. I'm wondering how your biology lab safety rules differ from your chemistry lab safety rules. Looking at general biology, organismal biology, cell biology, anatomy (cadavers), microbiology, and research labs. Do you require safety glasses? Safety goggles? Closed toe shoes? Lab coat? Gloves? Can students work alone in the lab? Anything and everything.
Feel free to respond privately if you wish, I'm happy to compile the data (without identifying institutions) if anyone would like to see it.
Thanks in advance.
