Dear Rachel,
Your waste bottle and all other chemicals not in immediate
use belong in a fume hood. Acetonitrile is flammable and can
cause health effects. Other LC mobile phase solvents can be
similarly dangerous; always read the MSDS. I hope this is helpful.
Sincerely,

Hello!
We are hoping to do some work with the LC this summer
using acetonitrile but are concerned about ventilation of
the fumes. Our waste currently runs to a bottle that has a
closed funnel. Do labs typically have their LC waste
container in a fume hood for ventilation? Our LC is
currently in a fairly small room that has one large vent
in the ceiling. Any thoughts or recommendations would be
greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Rachel
