Demystify:
And a few more updates:

1. When I moved servers last year, the program that graded my Toxic Trivia stopped working. I finally got around to fixing that and thought I should give it a more modern flair versus the ancient Web 1.0 look that it had: https://web.archive.org/web/20250720010338/https://www.ilpi.com/fun/toxic/index.html  So I had a lot of coding fun experimenting with the quiz/question designs which I will use on an SDS quiz project. Check out the new version: https://www.ilpi.com/fun/toxic/index.html Preemptive apologies to all the Official toxicologists on the list for any faux pas; I did include data sources, at least.

2. My Periodic Table Challenge has always been popular even though it also had a 1.0 interface. So I upgraded and improved that as well: https://www.ilpi.com/genchem/periodicquiz.html It has been described “as a humbling experience”.

3. And still in the quizzing them, I fixed the quizzing in the Organometallic HyperTextBook chapters and they look great on mobile. Check out the before: https://web.archive.org/web/20261011052759/https://www.ilpi.com/organomet/electroncount.html and now the current: https://www.ilpi.com/organomet/electroncount.html

I haven’t started planning the new SDS quiz, but if anyone has thoughts on stuff they’d like to see in there, let me know. My ancient one (pre-GHS) had a little certificate you could print out that you completed it correctly.

Stay safe!

With the DCHAS archives up and running again, I’ve been following up on some other sections that needed updating on our site after our server migration to the cloud.

1. The Safety Demystifier (formerly the SDS-Demystifier) got an upgrade that minimizes butchering of HTML documents: https://www.ilpi.com/msds/ref/demystify.html

While it was previously programmed to avoid overwriting HTML anchor tags, I realized it needed a much broader scope of protection. So now, when it detects there are HTML tags in the pasted text, it protects a wide range of things that shouldn’t be touched:

  • All HTML head content (<head...> and </head>).
  • HTML comments (<-- and -->)
  • Javascript or other scripts (<script...> and </script>)
  • Noscript tags (<noscript...> and </noscript>)
  • Internal CSS style declarations (<style...> and </style>)
  • HTML navigation elements (<nav...> and </nav>)
  • HTML buttons (<button...> and </button>)
  • HTML select lists (and options) (<select...> and </select>)
  • HTML anchors (<a...> and </a>)
  • Image tags (<img...>)
  • HTML element id tags (id="...")

2. I had this old fun diversion on my site - a safety take on Mad-LIbs™, that used to run on a server-side script but became inoperable when we migrated to the cloud. I changed it to run on the client side and gave it a nice coat of slick CSS styling as well as new improved icons. Have fun creating your own Unsafe Safety Data Sheets: https://www.ilpi.com/fun/msds/index.html

I am continuing to work on some other overdue content updates. News on that next week.

Have a great weekend everyone!
