Subject: Call for Papers - ACS Western Regional Meeting, January 2006,
Safety Symposia
Friends, please excuse the cross-posting. I have been asked to organize
some sessions for the American Chemical Society Western Regional
Meeting,
January 22 - 26, 2006 in Anaheim California. One session will be called
"Fundamentals of Laboratory Safety' and will feature 30 - 45 minute
talks
and various lab safety topics. With that in mind, I am seeking
volunteers
to discuss any of the following topics:
* Lab Std./HazCom overview
* Principles of chemical storage in laboratories
* Managing carcinogens and chronic toxins
* Effective fume hood use/ lab Ventilation
* Laboratory security issues
* Protective equipment (glove) selection and use
* Laboratory Spill Management
The more practical and real-world oriented the better, as far as I am
concerned. I would be interested in success stories, horror stories,
lesson
learned, best practices or anything related to the above topics.
In addition to the above, I am also looking for speakers who can address
issues related to biological safety in research labs, and issues related
to
pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical safety.
Please keep in mind that budget is very limited. No travel compensation
or
honoraria will be offered, although we will cover speaker registration
costs. With this in mind, presenters local to the area are probably
best.

to
the symposia, we will also be offering 4 laboratory safety related
workshops
