There are numerous rules regarding distance, obstructions etc.    I prefer a 
simpleir test method, take a healthy young volunteer who works in the  lab.  
Familiarize them with the locations of the fountains.  Place  them in a bench 
position in which they may work and be exposed to eye  hazards.  Blindfold 
them.   Tell them to find their way to the  shower in 30 seconds or less.  If they 
fail this test evaluate the  positioning of the shower.
